The TERUMO SURFLO 3SVā19BLK Winged Infusion Set is designed primarily for intravenous access in scenarios where a stable, lowāprofile needle is required. The 19āgauge needle provides a balance between flow capacity and patient comfort, making it suitable for moderate to higher flow infusion needs (e.g. fluids, medications) while minimizing vascular trauma. The inclusion of 12āÆin (ā 30āÆcm) of tubing gives flexibility and distance from the patientās skin, which is helpful in maintaining clean handling and reducing disturbance to the insertion site.
One of the hallmarks of the SURFLO design is its wing system. The soft, flexible interlocking wings are engineered to conform snugly to the patient's body surface, providing tactile stability and allowing secure taping or anchoring. The slight downward bonding angle (~3°) of the needle relative to the wings is intended to reduce stress on the vessel wall and improve the alignment of the needle tip within the lumen. This reduces risks such as vessel trauma or partial occlusion of the needle bore.
Additionally, the SURFLO line emphasizes ease of insertion and continuity of access. The needle is precisely honed with a thināwall design, facilitating smoother penetration through skin and into the vessel with less resistance. Because it's engineered to maintain ācontinued access,ā the design supports more reliable venous access on first attempt. The infusion set is sterile, single use, and the tubing is designed to be free of DEHP (a plasticizer of concern in medical devices). Used properly, the 3SVā19BLK provides clinicians with a stable, effective, and broadly compatible IV access option in a variety of settings.
